Dans le décor d’un arbre aux feuilles multicolores, un bébé fraîchement sorti de son cocon part en quête d’un « nouvel endroit » où il se sentirait moins à l’étroit. En compagnie de son ami le chat, il passe d’une « maison » à l’autre : le tronc de la chouette trop petit, le terrier des loirs trop noir… Finalement, l’enfant, un peu fatigué, trouve une paire de bras qui le mènent « au plus beau des endroits (…) un endroit parfait pour lui et pour son chat ! ».
